Shawn Torbert’s career in sustainable building began in 2007 when he left the medical device industry to become VP of New Business Development at Greenable, Inc., Philadelphia’s first green building material supplier. Since then he has maintained a strong focus on sustainable building materials and high performance/low energy building technologies and design. In 2009, Shawn founded his own independent manufacturer’s representative firm, TORUS 5, to introduce new high-performance passive and active energy-saving commercial building products to the U.S. architectural community and construction markets. In 2012, Shawn became the NYC Façade Application Specialist at Trespa North America before becoming the NYC Architectural Manager at ROCKWOOL in 2014. Shawn served on the Board of Directors of New York Passive House (NYPH) from 2014 to 2016 and helped establish the New Jersey Passive House Chapter. Shawn currently volunteers as a Passive House Trainer for the Building Energy Exchange in NYC, and is an Ambassador for the North American Passive House Network.
Shawn holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Biology from Lehigh University, is a LEED AP, a Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Sustainability Management at Columbia University in the City of New York. He is a native of Monmouth County, NJ and currently lives there with his wife and two sons as they retrofit their 1870’s Folk Victorian home to the Passive House Standard with the ultimate goal of net-zero energy.
